24 Qaris Make It to Al-Kawthar TV Quran Contest’s Semifinals

TEHRAN (IQNA) – After 24 days of competition, 24 top Qaris managed to reach the semifinal round of a live TV Quran contest organized by Al-Kawthar TV.

 

The 11th edition of the phone-in Quran competition titled "Inna lil-Muttaqina Mafaza” (Indeed, for the righteous is attainment- Holy Quran, 78:31) had begun on the first night of Ramadan (May 17).

As many as 113 Qaris from 20 countries took part in this year’s edition, of whom 24 from 7 countries made it to the semifinals.

The semifinalists are from Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Mauritania and Germany.

On Sunday night, they will start competing to become one of the five finalists.

The finals will be held a night before Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

A panel of judges made up of Quran masters hailing from Egypt, Iran, Iraq and Syria judge the contestants’ performance.

Inna lil-Muttaqina Mafaza is the Muslim world’s biggest live Quran recitation competition aired by Al-Kawthar, an Arabic-language channel within the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting’s World Service.
